"Forget about the defeat you suffered at home in the hands of Abia Warriors over the weekend and focus on your next encounter against Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure.”

These are the words of the Chairman of Edo State Sports Commission (ESSC), Yussuf Alli when he alongside the management of Bendel Insurance Football Club visited the players and official on Wednesday.

The Edo State Sports Commission boss said that the Match Day 10 against Sunshine Stars on Sunday in Ijebu-Ode is more important than the 1-0 defeat to Abia Warriors on Saturday in Benin.

Yussuf Alli told the team that though management is not happy with their below par performance so far this season but will continue to encourage them to put in the right shift so that they can flourish.

"I am here this afternoon to encourage you to put the thoughts of the home defeat behind you and have hundred percent concentration for the next match. Go to Ijebu-Ode and win to fully recover from the last weekend setback. I must tell you the truth that we are not happy with the results we are getting. There is a growing concern by stakeholders about our performance and current situation in the league. We have done all that is required for you to succeed and it is not showing.”

“However, we want to believe that soon, we will rise above the challenges and find the right rhythm and winning mentality. Don't feel despair but continue to work hard and avoid distractions. You guys are good,it is just little mistakes we are making that is affecting us and we can correct them." Alli said.

He challenged the players and coaches to seize the opportunity of the Ijebu-Ode neutral ground for the match against Sunshine Stars to cover their lost grounds.

Responding, the Head Coach and Technical Director of Bendel Insurance FC Monday Odigie expressed the team's appreciation for the kind words and encouragement from the Sports Commission chairman against the expectation that the chairman was going to be hard on them.

"Mr Chairman we sincerely appreciate you sir. We will continue to work hard and do our best to turn things around. We apologize for the outcome of the Abia Warriors game."He said.

Sunday Megwo's 40th minute goal gave Abia Warriors a 1-0 victory over Bendel Insurance Football Club in the Match Day 9 of the Nigeria Premier Football League in Benin last weekend.

Bendel Insurance will be on the road to Ijebu-Ode on Sunday to face Sunshine Stars in the March Day 10 fixture. Kick off time is 4pm.

The Sports Commission visit came with special motivational financial package.

Meanwhile, Bendel Insurance duo of Michael Enaruna and captain Meyiwa Oritseweyinmi have been invited to the camp of Nigeria's home based Super Eagles for the CHAN 2025 Tournament.

The duo are already in the camp of the National team in Abuja as they were not seen on the training ground of the Benin Arsenals on Wednesday.

Nigeria backs ANOCA rotation policy as Uganda lands 2031 African Games hosting rights

By Maxwell Kumoye  Uganda's emergence as host of the 2031 African Games has been linked to the rotational hosting policy of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA), a framework designed to ensure equitable distribution of the continent's biggest multi-sport event among Africa's regions. Investigations have revealed that the East African nation benefited significantly from the policy, which seeks to spread hosting opportunities across the continent rather than concentrating them in a few countries. The decision is also understood to have been aided by Nigeria's withdrawal from the race, leaving Uganda as the sole candidate for the prestigious event. For Nigeria, supporting the rotational arrangement aligns with the country's longstanding contribution to the growth of the African Games movement. The nation has already hosted the continental showpiece twice, first in Lagos in 1973 and again in Abuja in 2003, making it one of only a handful of c...

Eight days before Mexico City kicks off the World Cup, mass protests by teachers and retired judges, road closures and last-minute construction work caused chaos in the capital on Wednesday for millions of residents who face long delays and complex rerouting of their daily commutes. On June 11, Mexico City will host the inaugural World Cup match between ‌Mexico and South Africa at Azteca stadium in the capital. With Mexico in the global spotlight, teachers and other groups have staged marches and blocked major avenues. Iran to play World Cup warm-up behind closed doors, head to Mexico on Saturday

Iran will play their final World Cup warm-up behind closed doors in Turkey on Thursday before departing for their tournament base in Mexico on Saturday, the Iranian FA (FFIRI) said on Wednesday. Although it was one of the first teams to ‌qualify, Iran's participation in the World Cup has been in doubt since the U.S. and Israel launched air strikes on the Islamic Republic in late February. The squad have played three friendlies in two training camps in Antalya since the start of the war - losing to Nigeria and beating Costa Rica and Gambia - and on Thursday will face Mali in the Turkish sea resort. "Considering the importance of the Iranian national football team's friendly match against Mali, and in line with the tactical objectives of Iran's head coach, tomorrow's match against Mali will be held behind closed doors and without media attendance," FFIRI said in a statement. The FFIRI persuaded FIFA to allow the team to swap its tournament base from Tucson, A...
