The Executive Director of Sports Development and Operations, Edo State Sports Commission, (ESSC), Mrs. Sabina Chikere, has described the Super Eagles' decisive win over the Black Mambas of Mozambique as a glowing testament of the nation's supremacy and dominance in football on the continent.

She made this submission during an exclusive interview with FIRST ZEALMEDIACAST BLOG's Oluwatobiloba Zeal-Adepetu Kumoye, emphasizing that Nigeria's performance is a statement laced with class, character, and confidence.

Nigeria turned on the style in Fes, brushing aside Mozambique 4-0 to storm into the quarter-finals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Super Eagles needed no warm-up. Victor Osimhen had the ball in the net inside two minutes, only for the flag to deny him, but it was an early warning Mozambique failed to heed.

Nigeria’s dominance paid off in the 20th minute. Ademola Lookman, electric all night, bent a precise finish into the corner after Akor Adams’ smart cutback to open the scoring.

Five minutes later it was two. Alex Iwobi sliced through midfield, releasing Lookman, whose low cross via a deflection off Adams was turned in by Osimhen at the back post.

Mozambique, in their first-ever Africa Nations Cup knockout match, were stretched and overrun, barely able to stem the tide.

Any faint hope they had disappeared early in the second half. Lookman again pulled the strings, drilling a teasing ball across goal for Osimhen to tap in his second and Nigeria’s third.

The rout was complete in the 75th minute when Akor Adams powered home a deserved goal of his own, capping a ruthless team display that could easily have yielded more.

Mrs. Sabina Chikere a seasoned Sports administrator called on the team to keep the pace and steam adding that the battle for the sought-after trophy has only begun.

She assured the team of the support and backing of the entire country, morally, financially and spiritually. Mrs. Chikere who viewed the energetic match from home, urged the team to play with more unity focus and belief as they face the next hurdle of the tournament — Algeria, two time AFCON champions or rivals DR. Congo, who stopped their World Cup dream.
