Jos Scrabble Club turns a new page with Ajao’s emergence

A fresh chapter has begun at the Jos Scrabble Club and it starts with a decisive move at the top.

At elections held on February 21, members handed the reins to Antony Ajao, who emerged as the club’s new Coordinator, ushering in what many believe will be a defining phase for one of Plateau’s most vibrant scrabble communities.

Ajao steps into the role vacated by Henry Nwosu, whose two-year tenure transformed the club from a modest gathering of enthusiasts into a structured and competitive force.

In his farewell remarks, Nwosu thanked members for their trust and praised his Executive Committee for their loyalty and resilience.

And there was plenty to be proud of under Nwosu’s watch, the club achieved key institutional milestones:

• Securing registration at the local government level

• Opening a corporate bank account

• Formalizing membership registration

• Adopting a working constitution

• Membership numbers swelled

• The club’s administrative framework took firm shape

But it wasn’t just paperwork and policy.

On the board, Jos Scrabble Club made bold strides.

• The team competed fully at the National Inter-Club Championship

• In 2023, broke new ground by qualifying out of its zone for the first time

• Friendly matches across neighboring states further sharpened the club’s competitive edge

• Strengthened regional ties

Now, the spotlight turns to Ajao.

In his acceptance speech, the new Coordinator struck a tone of continuity and ambition.

He acknowledged the solid foundation laid by his predecessor and promised to consolidate on existing gains while introducing fresh initiatives aimed at boosting administrative efficiency and raising competitive standards.

The newly elected Executive Committee reflects both balance and bold intent and it include three women and four men, alongside the Immediate Past Coordinator in a non-elective role.

The blend of experience and youthful dynamism signals a leadership ready to evolve with the times.

One of the standout appointments is Joy Ola, a Gen Z member who takes on the role of Public Relations Officer.

Her inclusion points to a modern, forward-looking communication drive designed to amplify the club’s voice and visibility.

The transition has already drawn praise from Mohammed Abbas, Chairman of the Plateau State Scrabble Association, who commended the outgoing EXCO for its institutional strides and challenged the new leadership to expand the club’s footprint within and beyond the state.
